Google Map Pin in the Wrong Location? How to Fix Your Address

A map pin dropped on the wrong street — or across town — sends customers to the wrong door and quietly costs you business. It's a recurring r/GoogleMyBusiness headache because the address text and the map pin are two separate data points that don't always agree.

Why the pin and address drift apart

Your typed address can be perfect while the pin sits in the wrong spot, because Google geocodes the pin independently. Moving, a mis-dropped marker, or Google's own data can push the pin off — and fixing the address field alone won't move it.

How to fix the address

In Business Profile Manager, open Business Information and edit the address field directly. Note that a significant change (different building or city) can trigger re-verification, so expect that step.

How to fix the pin

• Open your listing and use the pin-adjustment tool in Business Profile Manager to drag the marker to your exact front door.
• Or use "Suggest an edit" on the public Maps listing to reposition it.
• Remember: correcting the address does NOT auto-move the pin — do both.

For service-area businesses

If you serve customers at their location and don't have a storefront, hide your address and set accurate service areas instead. A visible address you don't staff is both a pin problem and a suspension risk.

After you fix it

Edits take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few days to publish. Once correct, keep your address identical across your website and directories so Google doesn't "correct" it back. Then focus on reviews and replies — the signals that actually drive you up the map once customers can find you.
